The present study is part of a larger project to collect and analyze data in the field of child and adolescent medicine as well as child and adolescent psychiatry. In this retrospective data analysis, diagnoses (admission and discharge diagnoses) and treatment from university clinics for child and adolescent medicine as well as child and adolescent psychiatry will be analyzed anonymously. The main objective of this retrospective analysis is to examine changes in diagnoses and diagnostic patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be analyzed whether there was an increase in mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, and eating disorders and whether this increase was related to external factors such as school closures or pre-existing psychiatric conditions. In parallel, somatic disorders such as autoimmune diseases or infectious diseases of childhood and adolescence will also be considered in relation to the pandemic.Retrospective data analysis is an integral part of the overall NUM-Coverchild project to generate sound evidence and develop prevention and early intervention interventions for children and adolescents. The results of this analysis will help to understand child and adolescent health better and prepare for health crises in the future. The overall project "NUM-Coverchild" provides the foundational work for a children's network which, starting from the university hospitals, will enable a rapid evaluation of routine data for clinical use in the future, e.g. by detecting a change in diagnostic signatures over time, relevant disease patterns can be identified and, if necessary, their incidence or prevalence increase can be recorded ad hoc and continuously. The project requested here thus represents the central use case.
